Frequently Asked Questions

Q.

Why do I need a thermometer for my woodstove? I can tell when the fire is lit and when I'm warm or cold.

A.

"A woodstove without a thermometer is like a car without a speedometer." You need to know what's going on inside your stove to save money, stay safe, get more heat from less wood, and lower your emissions. Click here to find out more.

Q.

How can I tell if an ASV-90 will help my smoky fireplace?

A.

Open a window slightly. If your fireplace draws easily with the window open, then you know the controlled, diffused make-up air supplied by an ASV-90 will solve your problem...without any of the drawbacks of leaving your window open! Learn more here.

Q.

How long will it take to ship my order?

A.

Condar is able to ship most items within one business day of your order. Most Condar products ship via UPS within the continental US. If for some reason we can't ship your order right away, we'll let you know as soon as possible.

Q.

How does a catalytic combustor work?

A.

Since the late 1980s, woodstoves have had certain stringent emissions requirements. To comply with these codes, many stoves are manufactured for use with a catalytic combustor. The combustor actually "burns" the smoke from the fire, resulting in a LOT more heat from a lot less wood...and a much cleaner environment! Click here to learn more.

Q.

How can I tell when my catalytic combustor needs replacing?

A.

There are several signs that your catalyst needs to be replaced...as well as ways to tell if you are burning your catalytic stove properly.

  1. Smoke from your chimney will be noticeably darker;
  2. Stove won't generate the high temperatures it once did;
  3. Possible build-up of creosote or soot in the chimney.

Q.

Can I use my EmberGard Patio Fireplace on a wooden deck?

A.

Yes, as long as you put it on a non-combustible surface. Your local hardware or garden supply store should carry paving blocks or stones, which make a fine "hearth pad" for your EmberGard. Remember, the EmberGard is an OUTDOOR fireplace, and should never be used indoors or under an overhanging roof.
