Condar Thermometers
How They Work

"A woodstove without a thermometer is like a car without a speedometer." Click here for seven intelligent reasons why every woodstove owner should use a stovepipe thermometer.

If you're using a woodstove, you need to know what's going on inside your chimney. If you're burning too cold, you could be coating your chimney with creosote, sending massive amounts of particulate matter into the atmosphere, and losing quite a bit of heat from your wood.

If you're burning too hot, you could be wasting energy, damaging your catalytic combustor or even chancing a chimney fire. It's important that you know exactly what's happening, so you can burn efficiently, stay comfortable, and most importantly, stay SAFE.

Condar patented surface thermometers are bimetal instruments that attach magnetically to your stove or flue pipe. They indicate the surface temperature, and by extension the temperature of the flue gasses. They're instrumental in fine tuning your burning habits for maximum safety and efficiency.

The ChimGard 3-4 Thermometer is the most popular surface thermometer for use on single-walled stove pipe. Colored "zones" on the enamelled steel face indicate safe burning temperatures, letting you know what's going on. A cool-touch metal bail allows you to move the magnetic thermometer wherever you wish on the pipe, or you may use the safety screw (included) to insure the thermometer stays exactly where you want it, with no chance of slipping off the pipe.

The WoodSaver 3-16 Thermometer performs the same function, but without colored "zones" on the face. Unlike the ChimGard, the WoodSaver's face is aluminum. This makes the WoodSaver suitable exclusively for stovepipe use and not for placement on the hotter surfaces of a woodstove or insert.

The beautiful Medallion 3-34 Thermometer is versatile. Use as a stovetop thermometer where the stovepipe can't be accessed or where manufacturer's instructions call for a stovetop reading, or use it on your stovepipe. The Medallion has an enamelled steel face with 24-carat gold lettering.

Condar is the world's only manufacturer of probe thermometers for woodstoves. Condar probe thermometers directly read the gas temperature and conduct the heat to a bimetal coil located outside the pipe. They provide the fastest and most accurate reading of flue temperatures. A small hole must be drilled in the stovepipe to install one of our probes.

The FlueGard 3-39 Thermometer is inserted directly into the stove pipe. It provides for faster and more accurate reading of actual gas temperatures than a surface thermometer, and is the only way to determine the temperature inside a double-walled pipe. The FlueGard has an enamelled steel case, with colored "zones"indicating safe temperature.

The Flue Gas 3-19 Thermometer is the economy version of the FlueGard, performing the same function, but without colored "zones" on its painted aluminum face.

The Catalytic Combustor 3-12 Thermometer is specifically designed for a catalytic combustor woodstove. The probe is inserted directly behind the catalyst in the woodstove, and measures the temperature of gasses passing through the combustor. It lets you know if the catalytic combustor is working properly. It also lets you know when the fire is too cold for the catalytic combustor to work at all, or when the fire may be so hot it might damage your combustor.

We have other length probe catalytic thermometers up to 8-inches. Contact us for probe recommendations for your stove.
